As an avid seashell collector for years, I have my favorite seashells and the Queen Conch is at the top of my list. Of course, I am sure that the many varied shades of pinks and corals is what always draws me to this beautiful seashell. The exterior of the shell is a light beige, sandy color but the high gloss interior can range from a light blush pink color to hot pink and apricot tones. No two are ever alike and when a new shipment arrives at my warehouse I am constantly amazed at the colors which nature produces. You will always find baskets, trays and a myriad of vintage containers filled with these shells in my shop at Chesterdales Home & Garden in Naples, Florida. They are the perfect accessory to use for cottage, tropical and vintage design.
queen conch origins
The Queen Conch seashell is found in the warm tropical waters of the Yucatan and Caribbean Sea to the tropical waters of the northwestern Atlantic, from Bermuda to Brazil. My first conch shell was given to me as a gift from a friend who had picked it up on the beaches of Belize. The conch is a large, edible sea snail. When you purchase this seashell from a tourist shop, you will typically find a “slit” made on the back side of the shell. This is where the conch has been removed and used for food. The light sand color on the exterior is what helps the animal to blend in with their natural habitat. Historically, Native Americans and indigenous Caribbean culture used parts of the seashells to create various tools. And to the Incas the Queen Conch was symbolic as a mouthpiece to the gods. Even to this day, if you are practicing Feng Shui in your home it is said to bring loads of good luck and will attract good energy by placing the seashell on a window sill.
add that beachy, coastal vibe
This beautiful, large substantial seashell will not be found lying on the Florida beaches, but can easily be found in shell shops, tourist shops and design shops and is a favorite accessory of Interior Designers. This shell is naturally beautiful and nothing says island style better than the Queen Conch thoughtfully added into your décor. It works perfect in an upscale beach house, artfully set on top of a cocktail table book, interspersed on book shelves or in a home with a casual, beachy vibe. Or it can be sittng on your desk in that cold, northern city reminding you that summer is just around the corner and the beach is calling your name.

Seashells are universal and no matter where your preferred placement of the Queen Conch, it speaks to your love of the sea.
